Football Recap: Hudson Hall Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Laguna Creek

Elk Grove won the last time they faced Laguna Creek and things went their way on Friday too. The Thundering Herd were the clear victors by a 28-7 margin over the Cardinals. Considering the Thundering Herd have won three contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Elk Grove got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hudson Hall out in front who rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Elk Grove was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 437 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Elk Grove didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Austin Maze and Dominic Vazquez. Vazquez has been hot for a while, having also posted six or more total tackles the last ten times he's played.

Despite the loss, Laguna Creek still got an impressive performance from Keian Smith, who picked up 145 receiving yards and one score. Smith really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 74 yards.

Elk Grove picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Laguna Creek, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-5.

Elk Grove has already played their next game, a 51-0 victory against Sheldon on the 17th. As for Laguna Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 49-14 win against Davis Sr. on the 17th.
