Football Recap: Junipero Serra Beats Archbishop Mitty for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Junipero Serra had won four straight games and Iziah Singleton did his part to make it five on Friday. The Padres strolled past the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs with points to spare, taking the game 28-13 with plenty of help from Singleton, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He is becoming a predictor of Junipero Serra's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 4-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

Junipero Serra didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jeovanni Henley and Cornell James. Henley got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Although Archbishop Mitty took the loss, they still got scores from Kai Sniffen and Joseph Engin.

Junipero Serra's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Archbishop Mitty, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.

Coming up, Junipero Serra will square off against Bellarmine College Prep at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Padres will be up against the Bells' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.75 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Archbishop Mitty, they will take on Archbishop Riordan at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Monarchs will need to watch out since the Crusaders have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
