Basketball Game Preview: Hammond Morton Governors vs. 21st Century Charter Cougars

The Hammond Morton Governors will face off against the 21st Century Charter Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. 21st Century Charter took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hammond Morton, who comes in off a win.

21st Century Charter will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Hammond Morton extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Governors blew past Lake Station Edison, posting a 97-19 win.

Kylah KP Patterson went supernova, shooting 5-for-9 from downtown and dropping a double-double with 50 points and 22 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Hammond Morton's points. Another player making a difference was Dalanie Jones, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 12 points along with seven boards and seven steals.

Hammond Morton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, 21st Century Charter unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by DeMotte Christian and fell 53-8. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-5.

Hammond Morton's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for 21st Century Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Everything came up roses for Hammond Morton against 21st Century Charter in their previous matchup back in December of 2020, as the squad secured a 64-20 win. In that matchup, the Governors amassed a halftime lead of 29-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
