Softball Recap: Iowa-Grant Comes Up Short

Iowa-Grant fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Mineral Point on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pointers by a score of 12-11. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pointers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Lakyn Holman spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and 11 unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Carly Shores was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted four or more RBI the last three times she's played. Quinn Hoeper was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs.

Iowa-Grant's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Mineral Point, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Iowa-Grant will venture away from home to face off against Prairie du Chien at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mineral Point, they will host Darlington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
