Football Game Preview: Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars vs. Lake City Tigers

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Lake City Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Zumbrota-Mazeppa will be strutting in after a win while Lake City will be coming in after a defeat.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any points two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Plainview-Elgin-Millville on Friday. The Cougars took down the Bulldogs 38-20.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lake City duked it out with Goodhue on Friday. The Tigers were outmatched by the Wildcats and fell 62-14. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota football rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Wildcats are ranked 39th).

This is the second loss in a row for Lake City and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Zumbrota-Mazeppa, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Lake City in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 19-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
