Basketball Recap: Southwest Dekalb Extends Winning Streak to Five

Southwest DeKalb strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with a 66-56 victory over the Dobyns-Bennett Indians. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 48-45 win the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2019.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southwest DeKalb to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jourden Smoak, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 16 points and five rebounds. Those 16 points gave Smoak a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Thomas Glanton, III, who posted 11 points along with seven boards and five assists.

Southwest DeKalb smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Southwest DeKalb's record now sits at 5-0. As for Dobyns-Bennett, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Southwest DeKalb is headed away from home for the first time to take on St. Pius X Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on December 5. As for Dobyns-Bennett, they will be taking part in a tournament against Austin-East at 6:00 p.m. on December 5.
