Basketball Recap: Heritage Christian Comes Up Short at Home Against Victory Christian Academy

Heritage Christian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 64-56 to the Victory Christian Academy Lions on Friday. If the Defenders were looking for revenge after losing 64-42 to the Lions when the teams met back in January, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Heritage Christian lost, don't look at Andrew Regnerus. Despite the final result, he went 15-for-24 en route to 35 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Regnerus, who posted ten points and six assists.

Victory Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Whitaker, who shot 45% from the field on his way to 24 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The contest was Whitaker's 11th in a row with at least 21 points. Levi Isensee was another key player, going 9-for-15 to rack up 22 points.

Heritage Christian has already played their next matchup (against Hammond Baptist), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Victory Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-46 defeat against Benton HomeSchool on the 17th.
