Softball Game Preview: Sunrise Mountain Mustangs vs. Maricopa Rams

The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs will take on the Maricopa Rams in a tournament on Thursday. Sunrise Mountain has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Sunrise Mountain came up short against Liberty on Tuesday, falling 13-3. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sunrise Mountain saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Pruetz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Maricopa fell victim to Canyon del Oro and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 15-0 to the Dorados. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Rams' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Maricopa's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Sunrise Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sunrise Mountain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. However, it's not like Maricopa struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Sunrise Mountain might still be hurting after the 9-3 loss they got from Maricopa in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Sunrise Mountain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
