Basketball Recap: Highlands Piles Up the Points Against Elliot Christian

Highlands's tournament run continued when they took on Elliot Christian on Friday. The Scots blew past the Eagles 102-37. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Scots.

Highlands got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaxson Johnson out in front who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists. The dominant performance also gave Johnson a new career-high in shooting accuracy (55%). Thomas Powell was another key player, going 8-for-10 en route to 22 points and seven rebounds.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Highlands was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elliot Christian only posted three.

Despite the loss, Elliot Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bryant Byrd posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was James Lappe, who earned seven points.

Highlands now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Elliot Christian, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Highlands didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-30 victory against Stockton Christian on the 6th. As for Elliot Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 71-33 defeat against Forest Lake Christian on the 6th.
