Softball Preview: Scott Eagles vs. Bath County Wildcats
Scott hasn't had much luck against Bath County recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Scott will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Bath County at 10:00 a.m. Scott will be strutting in after a victory while Bath County will be coming in after a loss.
Scott took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cooper, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Scott had just enough and edged out Cooper 14-13 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Ashlyn Riley and Elise Manhardt did most of the damage at the plate: Riley scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Manhardt scored three runs while going 2-for-5. What's more, Riley posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Fraley, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Bath County might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was Montgomery County who claimed the real prize. Bath County fell just short of Montgomery County by a score of 7-5. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Indians since on Friday.
The win got Scott back to even at 1-1. As for Bath County, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Scott couldn't quite get it done against Bath County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can Scott avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
