Football Recap: Cumberland Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hayward/Lac Courte Oreilles

Cumberland scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 34-23 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hayward/Lac Courte Oreilles Hurricanes. The Beavers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hurricanes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Cumberland lost, don't look at Troy Majewski. Despite the final result, he rushed for 134 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 119 yards on 13 of 25 attempts. Majewski also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles and defending one pass. Cumberland also got a significant boost from Logan Peterson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 119 yards.

This is the second loss in a row for Cumberland and nudges their season record down to 1-7. As for Hayward/Lac Courte Oreilles, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-6 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Cumberland will square off against Barron at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hayward/Lac Courte Oreilles, they will challenge Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hurricanes will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points in their last six games.
