Recap: Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights vs. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cougars
The Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights lost against the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cougars back in December of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Friendship Collegiate Academy fell 55-43 to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Friendship Collegiate Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked eighth in District of Columbia, while Our Lady of Mount Carmel is ranked 65th in Maryland).
Friendship Collegiate Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Kahmya Dixon and Miyazia Harris. Dixon scored 20 points, while Harris scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Dixon's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonae McKnight, who scored no points along with seven steals and five assists.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Janessa Horowitz out in front who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Horowitz continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Amya Goodsell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Friendship Collegiate Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Our Lady of Mount Carmel, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.
Friendship Collegiate Academy is on the road again on Saturday and play against Anacostia at 1:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Our Lady of Mount Carmel won't have much time to rest: their next game is against TPLS Christian Academy at 1:40 p.m. on December 30, 2023.
