Soccer Game Preview: Gaffney vs. Spartanburg

For the first time this season, Gaffney will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Thursday. They will face off against the Spartanburg Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Gaffney's last four matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Gaffney is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was York who was credited with the win on Tuesday. York got it done in the shootout by posting five goals to Gaffney's three.

Jose Aguilera Mosqueda and Israel Loaiza scored both of Gaffney's goals, which were season-firsts for both players.

Spartanburg is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Monday. They came up short against Eastside, falling 4-0.

Spartanburg's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Gaffney, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Gaffney was able to grind out a solid victory over Spartanburg in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gaffney since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
