Maryvale had won four straight at home, but on Thursday they bumped up to 5-4 to make it five. They really took it to the Carl Hayden Community Falcons for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-18 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Panthers just coasted through the last quarter.

Maryvale's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isaac Buchanan led the charge by rushing for 130 yards and one score on only eight carries. That's the most rushing yards Buchanan has posted since back in August. Julien Alokpovi also helped out with an impressive 97 receiving yards.

As for Carl Hayden Community, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7. Despite 96 more yards than Maryvale, the Falcons couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

When it comes to explaining why Carl Hayden Community lost, don't look at Damiani Mitchell. Despite the final result, he rushed for 159 yards, and also threw for 170 yards and a pair of TDs. Mitchell has become a key player for the Falcons: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 0-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Elijah Evans, who picked up 100 receiving yards and one touchdown.
