Softball Recap: Hazelwood West Has No Trouble Against Mehlville

It was a proper cat-fight when Hazelwood West faced off against Mehlville on Thursday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over the Panthers. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won eight in a row.

Allisan Cafolla was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in October of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Kenna Kalka and Mia Boschen did most of the damage at the plate: Kalka went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI, while Boschen went 3-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Kalka a new career-high. Carley Gooch was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Hazelwood West's record is now 13-4. As for Mehlville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Hazelwood West will face off against Maplewood-Richmond Heights at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Mehlville, they will square off against Kirkwood at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
