The Clay City Eels will head out on the road to face off against the Salem Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Clay City will be strutting in after a win while Salem will be coming in after a loss.
On Friday, it was close, but Clay City sidestepped North Daviess for a 4-3 victory. That's two games straight that the Eels have won by just one run.
Charli Walters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addalee Thompson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run. Ashley Harrison was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Salem duked it out with Corydon Central on Thursday. The Lions fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.
Salem saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lila Blevins, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
The win made it two in a row for Clay City and bumps their season record up to 9-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Salem, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Both Clay City and Salem just can't seem to miss. The Eels have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Salem struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
