Union Grove's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 21-20 photo finish over the Hawkins Hawks. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Union Grove found their leader in sophomore Brycen Porter, who rushed for 147 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 144 yards and one TD. Those 147 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Porter. Union Grove's leading receiver Wrigley Roberts was Porter's top target yet again, picking up 119 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Union Grove's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 5.5 sacks. In that department, Reilly Holt was the leader with 2.5.

Hawkins' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Eli Smith, who threw for 166 yards and three TDs, and Eli Snider, who picked up 96 receiving yards and one score. Snider really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 70 yards.

Union Grove pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.7 points on average over those games. As for Hawkins, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Union Grove wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 49-22 defeat against Elysian Fields on the 3rd. As for Hawkins, they have also already played their next game, a 50-20 victory against Ore City on the 3rd.
