Basketball Recap: St. Xavier Falls Short Against Ranked Covington Catholic

St. Xavier is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Covington Catholic. The St. Xavier Bombers fell just short of the Covington Catholic Colonels by a score of 55-53. That makes it the first time this season the Bombers have let down their home crowd.

Despite the loss, St. Xavier still got an impressive performance from Donovan Waleskowski, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 25 points. With that strong performance, Waleskowski is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Wassler, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine assists.

St. Xavier's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2. As for Covington Catholic, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.

St. Xavier didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-32 victory against Beavercreek on the 7th. As for Covington Catholic, they will square off against Beechwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Covington Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
