League recap: Southside rises in state rank

3A Region 1 recap October 1, 2013

Southside scaled the state rankings by moving to 287 from 320 this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region 1. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Keith 18-14.

T.R. Miller extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Clarke County, 48-17. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.

Opp's Ethan Davis and Cale Pierce led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Davis has thrown for 183 yards this season, while Pierce, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 6 catches for 93 yards. W.S. Neal's Quenton Samuels leads the league in rushing yards with 1,194.

A big matchup in 3A Region 1 this week will be when Straughn takes on Bayside Academy. The Tigers are in second place, while the Admirals are in seventh place.

Excel took down Monroe County 55-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
