Football Game Preview: Roosevelt Mustangs vs. Crespi Celts + Official Tickets

The Roosevelt Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Crespi Celts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Roosevelt has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Crespi will arrive with ten straight victories.

Roosevelt is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Murrieta Valley on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Mustangs had to suffer through a 48-13 loss at the hands of the Nighthawks. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-6.

Despite the defeat, Roosevelt had strong showings from Ja'Iris Shaw, who picked up 87 receiving yards and two TDs, and Matthew Ochoa, who threw for 280 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Mustangs also got help from Nathan Ramirez, who showed off his sure hands for 98 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Crespi was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary 49-20. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.

Crespi found their leader in sophomore Chase Curren, who threw for 240 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 60 yards and a pair of scores. Harlem Bullock was Curren's top target, picking up 90 receiving yards and two TDs.

Crespi's run defense was locked in: Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary could only muster 2.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Darryl Jones for the heroic effort on defense: he. Crespi didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 14.9.
