The Wheaton Knights will challenge the Poolesville Falcons at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
While Knights fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. Everything went their way against Paint Branch on Friday as they made off with a 19-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
Adam Cary made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Cary was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Bartels, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Teague Helfers was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Wheaton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paint Branch only posted an OBP of .278.
Meanwhile, Poolesville made easy work of Wootton on Friday and carried off a 12-5 victory.
Poolesville let Reid Kimball and Sawyer Thompson run wild. Kimball got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Thompson went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Yarrington, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Wheaton might still be hurting after the 27-1 loss they got from Poolesville when the teams last played back in April of 2017. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
