Recap: Lafayette Commodores vs. Jackson Academy Raiders
On Friday, Lafayette came up short against Jackson Academy and fell 62-53. While losing is never fun, Lafayette can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Jackson Academy is ranked tenth).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jackson Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mike Williams, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. The game was Williams' 17th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Gaitor, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Lafayette has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Jackson Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-1.
Lafayette will be playing in front of their home fans against Southaven at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Jackson Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Christian Collegiate Academy at 2:20 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
