Football Recap: River Bluff Takes a Loss

River Bluff and Stratford squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but River Bluff had to settle for second. They fell 40-35 to the Knights.

When it comes to explaining why River Bluff lost, don't look at Hayden Myers. Despite the final result, he rushed for 216 yards and five scores. The Gators are 5-2 when Myers posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 1-4 otherwise.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stratford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Meliq McGowan, who rushed for 258 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. McGowan's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jachin Davis, who rushed for 112 yards and one TD on only 13 carries.

River Bluff's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Stratford, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

River Bluff does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Stratford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against James Island at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Knights will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.
