Mater Dei Catholic had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Point Loma Pointers on Saturday, sneaking past 5-3. The win was familiar territory for the Crusaders, who have now won eight contests in a row.

Arri Romero made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 23 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maya Matthies, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Mater Dei Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 29-3. As for Point Loma, they moved to 23-9 with that defeat, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.
