Football Game Preview: Glenelg Gladiators vs. Oakland Mills Scorpions

Glenelg is 8-2 against Oakland Mills since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Gladiators will venture away from home to face off against the Scorpions at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Glenelg is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They took down Wilde Lake 21-6.

Glenelg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Russell McIntyre, who rushed for 139 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries. McIntyre is becoming a predictor of the Gladiators' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Dwane Morgan was another key rusher, rushing for 143 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Glenelg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 307 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September.

Meanwhile, Oakland Mills came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Vikings, posting a 39-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Scorpions, who have now won eight matchups by 30 points or more so far this season.

Glenelg's record now sits at 6-4. As for Oakland Mills, their record is now 9-1.

Glenelg took a serious blow against Oakland Mills in their previous meeting back in October, falling 50-6. Can the Gladiators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
