Baseball Recap: Howland Takes a Loss

Howland extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 13-9. They came up short against the Poland Seminary Bulldogs, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Monday.

Howland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bode Biggin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Poland Seminary, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Considering they have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Poland Seminary's side, Owen Mckenzie made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Mckenzie has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Dylan Kelty and Zach Marantis did most of the damage at the plate: Kelty went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Marantis went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most hits Marantis has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Joe Zuccaro, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Howland and Poland Seminary are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Tigers will take on Westlake at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Howland's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Demons have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Poland Seminary, they will host South Range at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
