Football Recap: Vail Christian Saints vs. Hayden Tigers
Vail Christian extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 3-5. They had to suffer through a 72-28 loss at the hands of the Hayden Tigers. If the Saints were looking for revenge after losing 34-8 to the Tigers when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Asher Morris threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns. Finn Hooper was his top target, picking up 194 receiving yards and one score.
As for Hayden, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 43.6 points.
Hayden got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Peyton Johnson out in front who rushed for 199 yards and four TDs while picking up 11.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 76 yards and one touchdown. Johnson has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Danek DeMorat was another key rusher, rushing for 148 yards and four scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Vail Christian will square off against rival Lake County at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Hayden is set to face off against their familiar foe West Grand at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
