Baseball Game Preview: Weiser Wolverines vs. Ontario Tigers

The Weiser Wolverines will head out on the road to square off against the Ontario Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Weiser will be strutting in after a win while Ontario will be coming in after a defeat.

Weiser's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over New Plymouth. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Weiser got a great performance from Brody Bittick as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Bittick also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Wolverines are 4-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Willy Jepsen was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Wyatt Black was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Ontario was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They came up short against Umatilla, falling 13-2.

Ontario saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Declann Webster, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Tristan Petty also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Weiser's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ontario, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Weiser came out on top in a nail-biter against Ontario in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
