Preview: United Longhorns vs. East Central Hornets

Two dominant guards in Jesslynn Jalomo and Emery Espinoza are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The United Longhorns will head out on the road to face off against the East Central Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. United knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully East Central likes a good challenge.

United pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 74-58 to Edinburg.

Meanwhile, East Central came tearing into last Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Southside with points to spare, taking the game 47-33. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, as East Central did.

A'maya Holton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 20 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Mitchell, who scored ten points.

United's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for East Central, they pushed their record up to 15-8 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

United beat East Central 63-56 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for United since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
