Basketball Recap: Bri'tanya Diedrich-Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fort Wayne South Side over Heritage

Fort Wayne South Side was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 33-31 heartbreaker at the hands of the Heritage Patriots. The Archers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Several Archers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bri'Tanya Diedrich-Williams, who posted 20 points and six boards. Amayia Shetler was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Heritage got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kierstyn Hess out in front who put up seven points along with six boards and five steals. Hess continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Lybarger, who scored eight points and nine rebounds.

Fort Wayne South Side's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Heritage, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-4.

Fort Wayne South Side didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-26 defeat against Fort Wayne Snider on the 5th. As for Heritage, they will be playing at home against South Adams at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
