Baseball Recap: Southern Wells Has No Trouble Against Eastbrook

While Southern Wells didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Eastbrook Panthers on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Landon Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Southern Wells: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise. Johnson was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

In other batting news, Wyatt Yoder was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Rugar Holmes, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Southern Wells' win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Eastbrook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Southern Wells is taking a road trip to square off against South Adams at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Eastbrook, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-0 victory against Northfield on the 17th.
