Recap: Ponchatoula Green Wave vs. Hammond Tornadoes
The Ponchatoula Green Wave have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 24 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 79-45 win over Hammond at home. Given Ponchatoula's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Hammond is ranked 141st), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hammond lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Charles Armstrong, who scored nine points along with three steals. Armstrong hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Joseph Carbo, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Ponchatoula pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.11 points. As for Hammond, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.
Ponchatoula will head out on the road to face off against Liberty Magnet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty Magnet knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Ponchatoula likes a good challenge. As for Hammond, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Belle Chasse at 7:00 p.m. Belle Chasse will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
