Football Game Preview: Clayton Bears vs. Northwood/Solon Springs Evergreens

Clayton hasn't had much luck against Northwood/Solon Springs recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Bears will welcome the Evergreens at 1:00 p.m. Clayton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Northwood/Solon Springs likes a good challenge.

Clayton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wisconsin's top teams: Owen-Withee, who was ranked 17th at the time (Clayton was ranked 20th). The Bears were outmatched by the Blackhawks and fell 68-34. The Bears were down 44-20 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Clayton got top-tier performance from Dayne Mumm, who rushed for 174 yards and two scores while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 118 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks on offense in their last four games, Northwood/Solon Springs finally came back down to earth on Friday. They came up short against Shell Lake, falling 26-6.

Northwood/Solon Springs' loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. As for Clayton, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

Things could have been worse for Clayton, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 46-32 loss to Northwood/Solon Springs in their previous matchup back in November of 2024.
