Baseball Recap: Fillmore Has No Trouble Against Santa Clara

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grace, Fillmore was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the Santa Clara Saints 13-6. The Flashes haven't had any issues with the Saints recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Johan Reyes made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. Reyes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Santiago Avila was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Javi Contreras, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Fillmore kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Fillmore's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Santa Clara, they dropped their record down to 0-3 with the loss, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fillmore will venture away from home to challenge Pacifica at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Pacifica's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Fillmore's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Santa Clara, they are taking a road trip to face off against Carpinteria at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
