Football Recap: Ramona Skates Past Hesperia with Ease

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Ramona walked away with it. They blew past the Hesperia Scorpions 40-13 on Friday. Considering the Rams have won eight games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jesus Gonzalez was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 75 yards and two TDs on only nine carries, and also threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt. Those 75 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lorenzo Sims, who rushed for 161 yards while picking up 7.7 yards per carry.

Hesperia lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Zamar Malveaux, who rushed for 92 yards and one score on only ten carries. Da'Lon Williams helped out on the ground, rushing for 85 yards.

The win (which was Ramona's fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.8 points on average over those games. As for Hesperia, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Ramona will challenge Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th. Hesperia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
