Basketball Recap: Sierra Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Sierra can now relate to. They took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coalinga Horned Toads on Saturday. The Chieftains were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Horned Toads apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

Jaden Pena continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Coalinga, putting up 24 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. Pena's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Damyen Tamayo was another key player, earning 14 points.

Sierra's loss dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Coalinga, they are on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 21 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.

Sierra does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Coalinga, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 52-47 defeat against Monache on the 19th.
