Baseball Recap: Slocomb Starts Season with Victory at Home

Slocomb took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Ashford Yellowjackets. The Red Tops have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Yellowjackets, too.

Wyatt Reeder was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Reeder was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Reeder wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Langham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Coming up, Slocomb will venture away from home to take on Cottonwood at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ashford, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Eufaula at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Ashford is coming into the matchup on an 18-game losing streak dating back to last season.
