Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Prep Academy Starts Season with Victory Against Johnson Ferry Christian Academy

Cornerstone Prep Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They secured an 86-80 W over the Johnson Ferry Christian Academy Saints on Thursday. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Saints, too.

Cornerstone Prep Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eli Stone, who went 8-for-17 en route to 23 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Bledsoe, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Cornerstone Prep Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2024.

David Cannon and Trent Witte certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Cannon posted 28 points along with eight assists and five steals, while Witte dropped a double-double with 16 points and 17 boards. Witte is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Cooper Shull, who earned ten points.

Johnson Ferry Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Cornerstone Prep Academy will take on Excel Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Johnson Ferry Christian Academy, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Fideles Christian at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
