Basketball Game Preview: Hobbton Wildcats vs. Jones Trojans

The Hobbton Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Jones Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Jones took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hobbton, who comes in off a win.

Hobbton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They enjoyed a cozy 70-54 victory over Neuse Charter on Friday.

Hobbton found their leader in freshman Richard Simpson, who posted 25 points. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for Simpson. Another player making a difference was Deonte Darden, who had 13 points.

Meanwhile, Jones was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Northside - Pinetown and fell 65-25. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 687th, while the Panthers are ranked 334th).

Jones' defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Hobbton, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.

Everything came up roses for Hobbton against Jones in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 63-33 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hobbton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
