Basketball Recap: Littleton Comes Up Short

Littleton was the 46-42 winner over Skyview when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Littleton Lions might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Skyview Wolverines an easy 48-26 victory. The matchup marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Littleton still got an impressive performance from Emma Bird, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, Bird is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game.

Even though they lost, Littleton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Skyview to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nevaeh Lucero, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 13 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Lucero has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leila Estrada, who posted 14 points.

Littleton has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Skyview, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.

After both having extra time off, Littleton and Thomas Jefferson will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Skyview, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wheat Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Skyview is facing Wheat Ridge at the right time seeing as Wheat Ridge is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
