Baseball Recap: Rochester Triumphs

Rochester took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rockets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bluejays on Wednesday, sneaking past 6-4. For the Rockets, this counts as revenge for the 17-7 win the Bluejays walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Gibson Warren was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ajay Runkel was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Rochester and bumps their season record up to 14-3. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 14-4 Sacred Heart-Griffin (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70.1% over those games). As for PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7-1.

Coming up, Rochester will challenge Sacred Heart-Griffin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cyclones' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central, they will face off against Williamsville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
