The Westlake Wolverines will challenge the Lackey Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Westlake has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Westlake is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They fell 62-54 to Graphics on Saturday.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Julius Johnson, who posted eight points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Damian Gore, who had eight points and 15 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Westlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Lackey fought the good fight in their overtime game against Potomac on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to the Wolverines. That makes it the first time this season the Chargers have let down their home crowd.
Like Lackey, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Justin Nguessan led the charge by going 6 of 10 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Gordon, who put up 11 points and five assists.
Westlake's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Lackey, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Westlake has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Lackey struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
