Basketball Game Preview: Frenship Tigers vs. Permian Panthers

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Frenship Tigers face off against the Permian Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday... One thing working in Frenship's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 22 matches.

Last Tuesday, Frenship made easy work of Odessa and carried off a 70-49 win. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Bronchos are ranked 627th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Patton Pinkins had an outrageously good game as he went 11 for 15 on his way to 29 points and six boards. Daniel Gedeon was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 10 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Permian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They blew past the Bulldogs 84-31. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 26 points or more this season.

Frenship pushed their record up to 19-7 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.3 points per game. As for Permian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.

Frenship couldn't quite finish off Permian when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 72-70. Can Frenship avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
