Last Thursday, everything went Augusta Prep Day's way against Wardlaw Academy as Augusta Prep Day made off with an 18-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cavaliers.
Dakota Dunn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Dunn was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Parker Hollimon, who went 2-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Shae Joniec was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Lincoln County entered their tilt with Briarwood Academy on Friday with five consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Buccaneers with a sharp 11-4 victory. While the Red Devils didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Garrett Treadwell tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
At the plate, Lincoln County got a massive performance out of Russell Gibson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Dawkins, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Lincoln County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Lincoln County pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Augusta Prep Day, their record now sits at 2-0.
Augusta Prep Day might still be hurting after the 14-3 defeat they got from Lincoln County in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Augusta Prep Day avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
