Softball Recap: Volunteer Triumphs

After losing to Grainger the last time they met, Volunteer decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Falcons came out on top against the Grizzlies by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.

Emily Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madison Holder, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Avery Weston, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Volunteer's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Grainger, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Volunteer will challenge Chuckey-Doak at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Grainger, they will square off against Cherokee at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
