Baseball Game Preview: Santana Sultans vs. Murrieta Mesa Rams

The Santana Sultans will be taking part in a tournament against the Murrieta Mesa Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Santana turned things around against San Ysidro on Wednesday. They blew past the Cougars 12-2. The Sultans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Christian Levesque looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Xander Bennett, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dominic Tavolazzi, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Santana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Murrieta Mesa, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Heritage on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won five in a row.

Murrieta Mesa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zach Janczyk, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Santana picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Murrieta Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
