Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for West Iredell

West Iredell hadn't done well against South Iredell recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The West Iredell Warriors walked away with a 59-52 victory over the South Iredell Vikings. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

West Iredell had a senior duo take command as Jordan Patterson dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 steals and David Bunton went 9 of 14 en route to 21 points along with seven boards and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bunton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jermaine Cornelius, who posted four points.

When it comes to explaining why South Iredell lost, don't look at Ryder Block. Despite the final result, he put up 15 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kobe Richardson, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

The win was the third in a row for West Iredell, bringing their record for this year to 4-1. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely South Iredell, Bunker Hill, and Elkin. As for South Iredell, their defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

West Iredell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-64 victory against Elkin on the 9th. As for South Iredell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-46 win against Bunker Hill on the 10th.
