Recap: Foothill Cougars vs. West Valley Eagles
The Foothill Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 65-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Valley. Foothill was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as West Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Foothill's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tyler Zanhiser, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five steals, and Cade Memeo who scored 12 points along with six steals. Caleb Belair was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Foothill struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as West Valley racked up 13 assists.
Leading West Valley to victory were Chase Kalnins and Jordan Heacock. Kalnins scored 25 points along with two steals, while Heacock scored 19 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Kalnins has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Blaze Collins, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Foothill has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for West Valley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-9.
Foothill will head out on the road to square off against Chico at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chico has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for West Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against University Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
