Softball Recap: Arnold Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Arnold can now relate to. They fell just short of the Fort Walton Beach Vikings by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday. The Marlins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Bre Clark spent all 9.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Arnold saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayley Sexton, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.

Arnold has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-8 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.67 runs. As for Fort Walton Beach, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-8.

As of now, neither Arnold nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
