Football Recap: Deshler Triumphs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Deshler had no problem doing just that on Friday. They won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Hamilton Aggies 31-30. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since August 22nd.

Price Thornton produced another solid effort throwing for 180 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 38 yards and one score. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in September.

Deshler's run defense was locked in: Hamilton could only muster 2.4 yards per carry. The Tigers' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.4.

When it comes to explaining why Hamilton lost, don't look at Mason Holloway. Despite the final result, he threw for 251 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 35 yards and one touchdown.

The win made it two in a row for Deshler and bumps their season record up to 11-1. As for Hamilton, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 11-1.

Coming up, Deshler will square off against Anniston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 10.1 points per game this season, so the Tigers' offense will have their work cut out for them. Hamilton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
